DescriptionThis clay body of this stoneware teapot contains a high proportion of feldspar, which contributes to a near-translucent quality in the finished ware. British potteries began to produce white felspathic stoneware in the 1780s; it remained popular into the early years of the 1800s. Some examples were left unglazed, but much, like this teapot, received smear glaze, which was a variation of the long-established process of salt glazing.
