DescriptionThis cup and saucer is part of a set depicting presidents of the United States. This example features a portrait of Andrew Jackson, the 7th president (1829–1837). He earlier served in the House of Representatives, the Senate, and as a justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court prior to a military career that included significant campaigns against Native Americans as well as an important victory over the British at New Orleans during the War of 1812, which brought Jackson great fame. In 1830, Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act, which forced the relocation of Native Americans from southern states to lands west of the Mississippi River.
