Description

The Russian photographer Georgy Zelma enjoyed a long career photographing for various press agencies in the Soviet Union. This image of a desalination plant is typical of Zelma’s dramatic style. Utilizing extreme angles, odd juxtapositions, or in this case high contrast, his images always aimed to celebrate Soviet strength and innovation. Here, the lone worker is silhouetted against an endless field of high-tech panels, symbolizing the goals of state socialism and central planning.
