Texmelucan

Lázaro Blanco transforms an ordinary streetscape into a modernist composition that intentionally plays with visual ambiguity. In the strong sunlight of Mexico, the painted lower portion of a wall, the solid forms of a utility pole and roof overhang, and the shadows they cast all read in a similar way. Further, by carefully composing his picture, Blanco creates a rectangular scene within the square. Together, these tonal and composition elements create a tension between the deep space of the street and the flatness of the photograph.
