[1] David E. Bright (1908-1965) and his wife Dolly Bright Silliman (née Newmire) were important collectors of modern art with a focus on early twentieth-century European art. Bright’s wife 1967 gift of twenty-three works to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) represented, at the time, the largest gift in the museum’s history. See Castro, Maria, "David E. Bright," The Modern Art Index Project (August 2018), Leonard A. Lauder Research Center for Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art [https://doi.org/10.57011/RLIC4291, accessed 15 July 2024].

[2] In the catalogue for cited 1963 exhibition (cat. no. 20, illus. p. 47), the owners of the painting are listed as Mr. and Mrs. David E. Bright, Beverly Hills, California.
