[1] The painting is listed in the 1963 sale, cited above, (lot 80) as “Poulet suspendu au fond bleu.” The work is illustrated in black-and-white with the following information: “Huile sur toile. Haut. 1m.01; Larg. 0m.76. / Signée en bas à droite.” Neither the seller nor buyer of this work are currently known. (New information provided by Robert McD. Parker, November 2024.)
[2] The Cordier & Ekstrom gallery opened in 1959 in New York. The business was run by Arne Ekstrom (1908-1996) in partnership with Daniel Cordier (1920-2020), who operated out of his gallery in Paris.
[3] Mrs. George R. Brown requested information regarding the work’s provenance in November 1967 as referenced in a letter from Louise Ferrari to her. [MFAH object file-accessed by Robert McD. Parker, April 2024].
