Description

A restless curiosity led José Manuel Fors to explore and combine a variety of mediums, as in this case, which mixes photography and sculpture. His series Bundles of Memories was prompted by the discovery of a small wrapped Egyptian owl at an exhibition and a phrase he read in the Cuban poet Dulce María Loynaz’s book Fe de vida (Proof of Life). Each work in the series, which began in 1999, is a stack of photographs, letters, documents, or clippings bound with string, simultaneously preserving them and keeping them from being seen. The cover image of this example includes Fors’s father as a toddler.

 

Una curiosidad insaciable llevó a José Manuel Fors a explorar y combinar medios como la fotografía y la escultura. Su serie Atados de memorias se inspiró en un pequeño búho egipcio envuelto en tela que vio en una exposición, y en una frase que leyó en el libro Fe de vida de la poeta cubana Dulce María Loynaz. Cada obra de esta serie iniciada en 1999, consiste en un cúmulo de fotografías, cartas, docu- mentos o recortes, atado con una cuerda. Esta los preserva a la vez que los mantiene ocultos. En la imagen de portada de este ejemplo, vemos a su padre cuando era niño.
