Description

Since the late 1970s, José Manuel Fors has been significant among contemporary
artists raised and educated in post-revolutionary Cuba. He came to photography
from sculpture and usually arranges photographs within grids and collages or as
part of image-based objects. Faded, scratched, and browned by coffee, these
bundled family photographs are relics of personal and collective memories.
Recycling found materials is typical of Cuban artists, who have not always had
easy access to new art supplies.
