The year 2020 will be remembered both for the quarantine that kept people at home and the protests for justice and equality that brought people to the streets in cities across the United States and around the world. Accra Shepp’s photograph addresses both of these historic events through the lens of a single citizen. Rather than depicting the crowds, this dynamic portrait captures a single masked man, pausing amid the protests.
ProvenanceThe artist, East Elmhurst, New York; purchased by MFAH, 2020.
