On May 25, 2020, Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin arrested and murdered George Floyd in broad daylight. Floyd’s death ignited outrage as a video filmed by 17-year-old Darnella Frazier swept across the internet. Demonstrations against police violence erupted in Minneapolis and around the world. Houston-based photojournalist Go Nakamura spent the weeks that followed in Minneapolis capturing scenes of community resilience and solidarity as well as clashes between civilian protesters and the militarized police force outfitted with extensive weaponry and tear gas.
