DescriptionWhen Chinese porcelains arrived in the West in the 1500s and 1600s, Westerners were taken with the elegance of thin, pure white dishes with a glassy finish. This Chinese porcelain teapot is a comparable type that was used in America. It sits in a cupboard in the Newport Room, along with an array of English tin-glazed earthenware dishes, which were created to try to satisfy the desire by English and American customers for white ceramics to in the 1700s.
