DescriptionThis Ottoman embroidery exemplifies the trend toward a Rococo style in the 18th and 19th centuries that relates to European textiles
and decorative arts. The exuberant floral style is characterized by fanciful sprays of feathers or stylized leaves. Coming from a rich tradition
of embroidery in Ottoman lands, this work is of the highest technical quality, made using a range of techniques and an abundance of silver
and silver-gilt lamella.
ProvenanceAcquired by Francesca Galloway from an American textile collector?, who acquired it in 1994 from Francesca Galloway.
