DescriptionCarter
Mull’s photo-drawing combines recent reporting on the democracy-making movement
in Egypt and the importance of technology and information in that effort, as
visualized in a photograph found on the front page of the February 8, 2011,
issue of the New York Times.

The photograph shows a group of young Egyptian
men working with an Apple-branded laptop computer to network and campaign
against dictator Hosni Mubarak. Inspired by the brand’s symbolic prominence and
the effectiveness of virtual communication in the process of mass empowerment
and democracy making, Mull photographed an apple in his Los Angeles studio. He
then color-manipulated the Times
photo and collaged it onto his apple photograph, and added a drawing.
