Description

German immigrant Lee Kimik established a pottery in Limestone County, Texas, in the 1870s. In the German tradition, he used salt glazing for his wares.

This jar features a band of incised lines decorating its shoulder, as well as a two-gallon capacity mark.


Provenance[Jon St. Clair, Austin]; purchased by William J. Hill (1934–2018), Houston, 2000; given to MFAH, 2012.
Exhibition HistorySince it was first lent in 2010, the Kimik jar has been on exhibition in the Ceramics Study Room.
