Once the epicenter of Model T production and the birthplace of the assembly line, Ford Motor Company’s Highland Park facility sat abandoned for over four decades before Andrew Moore photographed the former executive offices in 2009. Moore drew out the surreal qualities of a room now characterized by the degradation of its once-grand architectural fabric and by new layers of organic growth. His picture of the former corporate headquarters suggests not only the deindustrialization and decline of American manufacturing in the 20th century but also new possibilities for life atop the ruins of American capitalism.
