Katei Taki

Japanese, 1830 - 1901
BiographyTaki Katei, the son of a samurai, studied Chinese painting in Nagasaki and later became a member of the Art Committee of the Imperial Household. Though he traveled widely throughout Japan, he lived and worked in Tokyo. Taki Katei was among the artists whose works were exhibited at the Vienna Exposition of 1873, where his paintings were seen and admired by Europeans.
