1938 Born Dunedin, New Zealand
1939 Moved to Sydney, Australia.
1954 Apprenticed as a colour photo engraver in the printing industry in Sydney.
Attended evening classes at North Sydney Technical College.
1956-60 Art Diploma at East Sydney Technical College. Graduated 1960.
Married Kay Morphett.
1961-62 Formed Imitation Realist group with Michael Brown and RossCrothall. Exhibitions held in Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne and Rudy Komon Gallery, Sydney.
1964-65 Awarded Helena Rubenstein Travelling Scholarship - to Italy, UK.
1966 Joined Marlborough Fine Art, London. First London Exhibition, February.
1966-81 Continued to live and work in London, exhibiting with Marlborough Galleries in London, New York and Europe and with Waddington Galleries in London. Continued exhibiting in Australia.
Travelled extensively in Europe, visiting France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Austria, Holland, Belgium and Crete. Spent long periods working in France and Spain.
Lectured part-time at the Bath Academy of Art, Gloucestershire College of Art and Design and at Chelsea School of Art, London.
1980 Prize winner, the Europe Prize for Painting in Belgium. Returned to work in 1980 Burgundy rather than London.
Decided to return to Australia.
1981 Returned to Australia after a ceremonial planting of a Blue Gumoutside the studio in Burgundy.
1983-86 Lecturer, City Art Institute, Sydney.

1987 Publication By Craftsman House of Colin Lanceley with an introduction by Robert Hughes.
1988 Production of film by ABC, Colin Lanceley - Poetry of Place. Directed by Andrew Saw. Duration 30 minutes.
1990 Awarded Order of Australia (AO). Travelled to New York.
1991 Awarded a Creative Arts Fellowship from the Australian Government. Invited to lecture and exhibit at the Arts Club of Chicago.
1993 Delivered the Lloyd Rees Memorial Lecture, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney.
1994 Appointed to the Council of the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra.
Designed mosaics for the Australian International Aquatic Centre, Homebush, Sydney.
1998 Commissioned to paint the ceiling of the Lyric Theatre, Sydney. Appointed Chairman of the Advisory Board of the National Art School, Sydney.
1999 Artist in residence programme at Haefligers Cottage, Hill End, on the New South Wales goldfields.
2000 Invited to lecture at Bathurst Regional Gallery with some background to the Hill End works.
Beyond The Frame project for the Department of Education in the Illawarra region.
2001 Subject of an installation mounted by the Art Gallery of New South Wales: Australian 2001 Collection Focus series. Invited to lecture at the New York Studio school.
2002 Commissioned to create a large glass work for the Victorian County Court
