NEWBURYPORT — Patti B. (Baker) Russell, 84, Newburyport resident since 1972, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009 at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport.
She was the loving wife of the late Donald F. Russell, who died in 1994.
Born in California, March 21, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Col. Leonard T. and Marjory (Voris) Baker, grew up in San Antonio, then moved to Pennsylvania, where she graduated from high school in Scranton, Pa. in 1942. She studied fashion design in New York City at the Traphagen School of Design.
Mrs. Russell was a graphic art designer for Steuben in New York City, where she met her husband. She was the designer for the Old North Church in Boston and had designed all the work for that church. A plaque honoring her for the project is displayed at the church itself. After she finished the Old North Church project, the church was renovated and her daughter, Linda, was married there in 1989.
She leaves behind her daughter, Linda R. Ricci of Stoneham.
