BiographyVarvara Rodchenko is the daughter of the Russian artists Aleksandr Rodchenko and Varvara Stepanova. She attended the Moscow Graphic Institute where she graduated in 1948. Since then, she has worked as a graphic artist, designing books, journals, posters and albums. In partnership with her husband, whom she met at the institute, Varvara Rodchenko designed posters for 'Polizdat' (the publishing house for political literature) and poetry books for the publishing house 'Khudozhestvennaya literatura'. Her favorite techniques in book design are photomontage and photograms. When working with photograms, she often employs multiple exposures which produce a greater variety of tone and contour. She values photograms for their effectiveness, immediacy, and the fact that they allow an infinite variety of composition. She currently resides in Moscow.
