BiographyStephen Lawson was brought up in the north of Scotland and now lives in the United States. He trained originally as a sculptor and his photographs are ‘an involvement in "earthworks", that is, sculpture that uses the landscape itself as material’. He uses handmade cameras to capture ‘actual, or experienced time’. Their technical imperfection leads to ‘light leaks, stains and omissions’ which to Lawson are welcome intrusions from his work environment. He has exhibited in Britain and the United States and his work is in corporate art collections as well as in major museums and galleries.
