BiographyMarcos Zimmermann was born in Buenos Aires on January 9, 1950. From 1970 to 1973 he studied at the Centro Experimental del Instituto Nacional de Cine. He worked until 1978 on still photography in the productions of such films as La Raulito, Camila, Senora de Nadie, Les Long Manteaux and Tropique de Grauque. In 1979 he moved to Rome where he worked as a freelance photographer. He took part in Venezia'79-La Fotografia. His works showed in several solo and group exhibitions, including Il Fotogramma, Spazio Scientifico and Delpire-Nouvel Observateur along with the work of Henri Cartier Bresson, Robert Doisneau, Jacques-Henri Lartigue, Robert Frank, Josef Koudelka, Elliott Erwitt and others. In 1982 he returned to Buenos Aires where, in 1986, he set up an advertising photographic studio. Since 1988 he has worked on books of photography. These include Patagonia, A Place in the Wind, Siderca-40 Years and Rio de la Plata, River of Dreams. The latter won the Premio Piramide de Oro 1995 for the Best Photographic Work of the Year, as well as the Fundacion El Libro's 1996 prize for Best Argentine Art Book. In 1998 he published Northern Argentina, land and kin". His photographs are in many private and public collections including Televisa, Paine Webber, Biblioteque Nationale de Paris, Fundacion Antorchas and the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires. Since his return to Argentina, he has participated in solo and group exhibitions at the Verso Photo Gallery (Tokyo), Houston Center for Photography, Museo de Bellas Artes de Buenos Aires, the International Center of Photography (New York) and at the Palais de Glace (Buenos Aires).
