known as “Space City,” is as tied to the triumphant history of the space program
as it is to the history of the cowboy. When famous Japanese photographer
Narahara Ikkô was invited to Houston in 1985 for FotoFest—an international,
biennial celebration and exhibition of photography—the artist chose to point
his lens at those aspects of Houston that clearly celebrated this connection.
Taken at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, the photograph captures two iconic
Houston characters: the cowboy and the astronaut.
