DescriptionThomas Kellner’s works are made as “straight” analogue photographs but are dependent upon digital processing. Kellner composes an image as a series of frames on a photographic contact sheet, working up from the bottom right to take each picture as one rectangle in the overall grid. He scans his film negatives and uses them without manipulating or reordering any of the individual shots. Before transitioning to digital processing, Kellner was limited to the few rolls of film he could manually seam together on a darkroom enlarger. Adopting Photoshop allowed him to create larger, significantly more complex images through digitally seaming together many rolls of film.
