DescriptionEdward Burtynsky's subjects range from mines, quarries, recycling depots and oil fields, to refineries and shipyards. His detailed and precisely rendered works document the changing relationship of humankind to nature. Here, he captures China's growing economy by  photographing hundreds of uniformed young workers in the cafeteria of a large textile  manufacturing factory in Southern China. The one woman wearing a red sweater adds a note of individuality in this sea of conformity.
