The overall design of this chair generally follows the ancient Greek klismos form as it was widely interpreted in the early 19th century, but with a notable simplification. A key feature of the klismos is the sweeping curve of its legs, but this example has only a slight curve of the rear legs and the front legs are straight with a pronounced taper.
