DescriptionThis tea and coffee service was created in the colonial revival style. The term “colonial” is something of a misnomer since the designs not only embrace the styles popular in the colonial period, but those that followed, including the Grecian. At one time it was believed that this idiom was in response to Philadelphia’s Centennial Exposition of 1876; however, it is now recognized to have been introduced earlier. Scholars have questioned if this was a “revival” or “survival,” and indeed some objects were made as authentic copies.
