DescriptionWith its sleek industrial design, the W38 desk phone (like its predecessor the W28 and successor W48) epitomized the modern world and society’s interconnectedness. Designed by the German firm Siemens and Halske, this standard German telephone had a molded Bakelite body. Whether Max Baur, who is better known for his softly lit nature studies, landscapes, and architectural images, photographed the phone as an advertising job or was drawn to the subject for its elegant form and symbolic value is unknown.
