DescriptionPhiladelphia-born William Vanderslice came to California in 1857 and established a firm that gained a reputation for making some of the finest silver in the western United States. The form of this crumber is similar to that of medallion pattern flatware that was widely popular in about 1870, but instead of the usual profile portrait at the handle terminal, this example features the head of a pig.
