DescriptionA blackjack is a tarred-leather container used for alcoholic drinks. The leatherworker made the blackjack of thick leather and steamed it in the shape of a tankard or flagon to which a handle, also of leather, was stitched.
ProvenanceKatharine Prentis Murphy (1882–1967); given to Miss Ima Hogg, 1962; given to MFAH, by 1966.
