Description

The avant-garde artist and theorist Ivan Hevesy believed that new forms of art would emerge from the actions and every day artistry of people on the street, rather than from any formal schools or apprenticeships. Working with photographer Kata Kálmán, the pair set out to capture candid scenes that demonstrated this new artistic ideal. On the River Bank features Budapest’s city-dwellers treating the man-made, rocky shore of the Danube river as a beach. Despite the oddity of the situation, the scene is beautiful as seen through Kálmán’s camera with white rocks and tanned skin in contrast.
