British East India Company governor of Bengal, at Daylesford House, Oxfordshire,
and sold there after his death by Messrs. Farebrother, Clark and Lye on 22 August
1853, lot 179. Later purchased by the Victorian book collector Sir Thomas Phillips
(his MS. 14170). Dispersed at auction, Sothebys London, 25-25 November 1968,
lot 367 (this miniature); resold Sothebys London 14 December 1987, lot 2 to Michael Spink, Spink & Son, Ltd.
