DescriptionFeininger’s iconic portrait of the photojournalist Dennis Stock was taken for Life magazine in 1951, when Stock won a first prize in the magazine’s competition for young photographers. The camera’s mechanical eyes and Stock’s own eyes have become one. A son of the German artist Lyonel Feininger, Andreas grew up and was educated as an architect in Germany. After moving to the United States in 1939, he joined the staff of Life in 1943, an association that lasted until 1962.
