DescriptionNan Goldin rose to prominence with photographs that chronicled her life in the subcultures of New York’s music and art scene of the late 1970s and 1980s, the post-Stonewall gay world and AIDS crisis, and the drug culture sometimes referred to as “heroin chic.” Goldin’s deeply personal images have been highly influential, giving birth to a diaristic and confessional strain of photography that has been widely embraced by contemporary photographers.
