Object Type
the 19th century, scenes depicting the bounty of the hunt were popular with still-life
photographers, just as they were with painters. Louise Laffon was a painter and
one of the first female photographers of the Société Française de Photographie.
She became known for still lifes of flowers, fruit, and game, some of which
were produced as studies for artists. An 1861 review described her “bird
pieces” as “rendered with a sharpness and a truth of form and plumage that are
inexpressible.” This still life by Laffon is stunning in both overall
composition and distinct detail.
