British military officers including Lieutenant Colonel Henry Dixon were among the earliest photographers in India, using their cameras most often to survey the historic architecture and religious monuments of the land in which they were stationed. Here, Dixon depicted the Rungadhama Temple near Mysore in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, noted for its rich architectural legacy.
