Description

On both sides of the Atlantic, fine art photographers sought to make pictures that stood in contrast to commercial studios, industrial documentarians, and Sunday snapshooters. Heinrich Kühn chose intimate subjects in line with fine art traditions and utilized processes such as gum bichromate that allowed for painterly manipulation of the image during development. This portrait of his son Walther was one of many Kühn made of his children in the years following his wife’s death in 1906.
