DescriptionOne of a pair of plates, each is painted in the center with a vase of flowers within a floral border. The decoration is called famille verte, which the ceramics historian Albert Jacquemart termed in the nineteenth century. It is a family of styles of Chinese porcelain from the Qing dynasty onwards that is characterized by a brilliant green enamel, though other colors appear such as iron-red, blue, yellow, and purple. The style influenced European porcelain manufacture.
ProvenanceRoyal Lancaster, London, 1973; Ruth Ann Russell (Mrs. Clarence A. Russell); given to MFAH, 2001.
