DescriptionThis box was made to contain snuff, a finely ground tobacco taken by sniffing it into one’s nose. Made of highly figured burled wood, the snuffbox features a portrait medallion of Benjamin Franklin on its lid.
Provenance[Louis Lyons, New York]; purchased by Miss Ima Hogg, July 5, 1961; given to MFAH, by 1966.
