DescriptionThis cast-iron fireback depicts Major General James Wolfe, who led British forces to an important victory over the French in a battle near Quebec in 1759 during the Seven Years’ War. Wolfe died because of wounds sustained in the battle and was acclaimed as a great hero.
Provenance[Carl and Celia Jacobs, Southwick, Massachusetts]; purchased by Miss Ima Hogg, 1958; given to MFAH, by 1966.
