DescriptionEpilogue, Weston’s photograph of his fellow photographer, muse, and romantic partner Margrethe Mather, stands at a crucial pivot point as he began to turn from the softly focused, dreamy, allegorical style of his earlier work to one more closely aligned with an emerging Art Deco aesthetic of broad geometric planes and stylized figures. Weston would eventually adopt a still more Modernist approach, with sharply focused images printed on glossy gelatin silver paper.
