DescriptionThroughout the colonial period, Chinese manufacturers made porcelain specifically for the Western market. This plate probably descended in the family of Major John Poulson of Virginia, who served in the Continental Army in the American Revolution.
ProvenanceMajor James Poulson, Onancock, Virginia; descended to James Poulson (1768–1840); descended to Robert Jacob Poulson (1806–1862); descended to Catherine Wharton Custis Poulson (Mrs. Corbin Drummond Fletcher, 1834–1864); descended to Robert Poulson Fletcher (1859–1933); descended to Northrop Rogers Fletcher (1902–1982), Onancock, Virginia; given to MFAH, 1981.
