PhotographyObject Type
the many Japanese photographers who attempted to respond to the devastation of
World War II through their art, Ueda Shoji found solace and inspiration in the
beaches and sand dunes of his home, the coastal Tottori prefecture. In this
work, Ueda has subtly applied color to the white objects in the foreground, a
practice that can be traced back to 19th-century photographic traditions and
elevates this collection of personal paraphernalia to an elegy to those who
died during the war.
