Inscription: The base is inscribed at the bottom edge, rear of figure: "R.B.6. / Roman Bronze Works N-Y-". There was a label (now in Registrar's files) taped to the bottom for Conner-Rosenkranz Gallery.
The sculpture is signed in the bronze on the upper base: "F. MacMonnies / 1890 / copyright 1894".
