As she pursued her independent projects, Bing worked with
some of the biggest names in fashion, including Paul Poiret and Jean-Charles
Worth, and contributed photographs to magazines such as Paris Vogue and Harper’s
Bazaar. Bing’s energetic, experimental style appealed to a fashion industry
looking for more spontaneous imagery than the conservative studio photography
of the past. She made this study for an advertisement for the Italian designer
Elsa Schiaparelli’s Salut, an evening
fragrance with white lily notes. Bing solarized the negative, partially
reversing its tones to create an ethereal picture of the glamorous model.
