DescriptionIn 1730, London nurseryman Robert Furber announced his plan to publish Twelve Months of Flowers, a set of prints, one for each month of the year, displaying flowers that would be blooming at that time, all based on paintings by the Flemish artist Pieter Casteels III. The prints appealed to potential buyers for their decorative and horticultural interest, and Furber benefitted from the prints’ advertising his business and products. The popularity of the floral series soon prompted others to copy it, and Furber to create a series of fruit prints.
Provenance[Kennedy Galleries, New York]; purchased by Miss Ima Hogg, June 25, 1959; given to MFAH, 1966.
