DescriptionJacob Whitmore was born in Middletown, Connecticut, in 1736. In 1781, he advertised in The Connecticut Courant: “To be sold (for hard money only). At the shop of the subscriber in Middletown. A good assortment of New Pewter among which are one article of Tea-Potts of the best sort.” The form of his touch indicates that he retired from pewter making about 1790 or earlier.
Provenance[Thomas D. and Constance R. Williams, Litchfield, Connecticut]; purchased by Miss Ima Hogg, October 5, 1960; given to MFAH, by 1966.
