The title of Keith Carter’s photograph, Luna, may refer to
the bright moon, the pale dog, or both. Carter notes, “Lost in Argentina, I was
walking along a dirt road, late one night when a dog came out of nowhere to
inspect me.” Carter’s meeting of this nocturnal creature echoes the nightly
appearance of the watchful moon, a similarity the artist emphasized through his
stacked composition and the hazy, shadowy appearance of both dog and moon.
