Lola Álvarez Bravo’s Carmen Marín de Barreda is a tribute to her fellow countrywoman and kindred spirit. Marín de Barreda was born in the culturally rich town of Guadalajara, Mexico, where she studied art history, and tried her hand at various art mediums before directing art museums and galleries throughout Mexico. In this portrait, Bravo celebrates this cultural innovator, adorned with Modernist jewelry and gazing confidently into the future.
