(sic) Old label in script on back of stretcher and new copy in ink: "Lot 274 274/The Death of St Clair./Bought at the sale of Pictures belonging/to the late King of the French./Louis Philippe. May 1853." Old paper label on back of the frame printed: "OLANTIGH TOWERS/THE PROPERTY OF THE TRUSTEES/OF THE LATE/J.S.W.S. ERLE DRAX./No. 507"
