Description

Beginning his career as a draftsman and designer for the textile industry, Adolphe Braun was an early adopter of photography who seized the medium’s potential for both artistic and commercial endeavors. During the 1860s, Braun made an extensive series of Alpine landscapes, including this view of Reichenbach—the tallest waterfall in the Alps. Beautifully composed and printed at large scale, such vistas helped convey to city-bound viewers the sublime grandeur of sites few would see in person.
